Mizata Retreat 2025
What happens when you choose to invest in a grand journey? When you approach your travels with intention and care? When you surround yourself with like-minded beings in a far away land?
You find connection- both within this small, temporary community, and within yourself.
You are given space- to expand and release.
You dig deep- so that you can soar to new heights.
Everyone kept asking what the theme was for this retreat. The truth was, I didn’t have one, and didn’t want to force one if it didn’t feel right. In the days leading up to it, I found a song by a Salvadoran band (Banda Tepeuani) from the 80’s. Its title was “Alza Tu Vuelo.” Alza tu vuelo literally translates to “raise your flight,” or in other words, spread your wings and take flight.
We did the work and play to do just that.
Each yoga practice had a pose inspired by a bird and a chakra focus. In our initial class, we focused on grounding within the first chakra. Every class following we worked our way up each energy center, until we arrived on the last day with newfound understanding- of what we can act on, and what we can release, to give us the ability to fully take flight.
Perhaps it was a leap of faith, like jumping off a waterfall.
Maybe it was surrendering and release in the temescal ceremony.
Or, simply committing to consistency and practice everyday at the yoga shala.
Whatever it was, each person partook in something that was new (& perhaps a little daunting), which in itself was so inspiring and amazing to witness.
When we choose to show up in a way that is vulnerable, loving, and authentic, it gives people the permission and motivation to do the same. This was felt very early on in the trip: something that connected all of us, bringing forth incredible synchronicities, epiphanies, and memories that will last a lifetime (and the group chat is still popping OFF, by the way).
Eternally grateful for it all. The people, the practice, the setting… the fact that this is my JOB… Any grouping of words will fall short of its depth.
And so we embark on another beginning.
